The name “Red Bank” was given in 1916 when the Nails Island ferry dock was redone. In that year the name was changed from Navesink Island Ferry to Nails Island Redoubt Ferry Company and the ferry dock was replaced by a pier on Red Bank Island. A large park was also built at the end of the pier. The ferry landing is still there and is open all day.
